Know & Tell Friday

I came across this meme at Jodi's blog, and thought it looked fun. I am always up for new weekly memes!

Question 1
What is the name of your very first friend? My very first friend was named Rachel. She is a year older than I, and our families lived together in Maine when I was just a toddler. I haven't seen her in probably 15 years, but we are friends on Facebook and still stay in semi-regular contact.

Question 2
Do you believe in love at first sight? I really have no idea. I don't think I can answer that until I actually fall in love...

Question 3
Clean Freak or Total Slob? Definitely both. Sometimes my bedroom/apartment look spotless, and other times my bedroom at least is a wreck. I really love it when everything looks clean, I just have a hard time keeping up!

Question 4
Last book you read? "Pursuing the Goal" by Jennifer Johnson. It was good and a fast read...I read it all yesterday ;)

Bonus Question

Give me one word that would sum up your goals for 2008? To be in one word, content!

Better Late Than Never

::Better Late than Never!::

Onesome: Better-- butter than margarine? ...or Mayonnaise? What goes on your bread for sandwiches? How about dinner rolls? Honey, anyone? I like both, but usually for different things, I guess. For toast, margarine. For sandwiches, mayo...dinner rolls, butter. I do love the honey, though!

Twosome: Late-- again! I think that's something I do about once a year. May I blame it on Christmas cleaning? How about you: is your place all cleaned up from the paper-fest? ...or can you even get to the door yet? Yep, we are all cleaned up! Early afternoon on Tuesday the room transformed pretty quickly from this...

to this...

Threesome: than Never-- again? Do you have any Christmas memories (this year or Christmas Pasts) that you'd just like to never repeat? I'm thinking humourous stories would be best! Finding out that my sister is dating my other sister's boyfriend's brother this year was pretty strange. Not that I don't like the guy, but it's very strange. Truthfully, I don't care to repeat that anytime soon!

Thursday Threesome

Friday Feast #173

Name 2 things you would like to accomplish in 2008. I would love to go on at least one date...and save $1000 for emergencies. Check back in a year to see if it happened ;)

With which cartoon character do you share personality traits? According to this quiz, I am Tweety...

What time of day (or night) were you born? 2:15 pm exactly. I remember that time because it's when I got out of grade school every day!

Main Course
Tell us something special about your hometown. It is fairly close to Dean Martin's hometown...that and the college I attended is located there.

If you could receive a letter from anyone in the world, who would you want to get one from? I think receiving a letter from Lauren Graham would be pretty cool. Every time I watch Gilmore Girls, or this video, I laugh out loud. She's hysterical!

The Memories of 2007

~The Memories of 2007~

By the way...

What memories, good or bad, will you take with you from 2007?
Making the decision to move from MA to OH, quitting my nanny jobs (January and August), moving three times (March, May, July), interviews (oh, so many of them!), getting a job offer and turning it down, deciding to work in a Montessori school, my wonderful co-workers, a crappy Christmas Eve but a wonderful Christmas Day...

BTW Sunday

Christmas break

I have to admit, my Christmas break hasn't been all I had hoped/imagined.

As I drove home Friday (12/21) I got a call from my 19 y/o sister, informing me that our 21 y/o sister has begun dating...the 19 y/o boyfriend's brother. Lovely- what a tangled web we weave... not that I don't like the kid, it's just WEIRD.

Saturday was spent making preparations for my family's 7th Annual Christmas party. We had more than 90 people arrive, although some came and went. The last of the guests didn't leave until after 2 am!

On Sunday, I didn't do much at all-- read a few books, played games with my younger siblings.

Monday was Christmas Eve and all was well until dinnertime. Around then, my family started talking about all of my friends who have gotten married/engaged this year, and I started feeling very lonely. After church that evening, my family was invited to attend a Christmas Eve party, and I was planning to stop by for a while. However, during church I began realizing that everyone at the party even remotely around my age would be with their SOs. Every last one of them...I started feeling really down and ended up spending Christmas Eve alone. It was alright though. I was able to pull myself out of misery and have a relaxing night away from my many family members.

On Christmas morning we didn't begin opening presents until close to 11. The family had all been gone until 4 am! My favorite gift was a clock that my sister brought back for me from Italy...sooo cute!
Yesterday was the 26th and my parents' 25th Anniversary. To celebrate we all went to Cracker Barrell for, I love that place! Afterwards we over to a Half Price Bookstore and I used all of my gift almost $10 more. It was a wonderful evening!

Today we were lazy again. I read a few books and watch Alvin and the Chipmunks with my two youngest sisters. My mom and 1 brother are at church right now, Dad is asleep, another brother is at a party, and the two couples (gag me!) are taking a walk together.

I think I'm ready for 2007 to be over...

I officially hate 2007

So, 2007 was supposed to be my year. You know, the year I met and/or married that special man. Guess what? It's December 24 and nothing. Not even a date, the whole year! I've been single this whole year, and the one before that, and oh, guess what- the one before that, as well. You get the idea.

Apparently, my siblings have other ideas. The three kids under me, ages 21, 19, and 17, have ALL started dating someone this year. And I just found out about the 21 y/o yesterday.

Life sucks...Merry Christmas

Crazy week

What a week it has been so far! With it being our last week of work before Christmas break, the kids are just nutty. They have so much Christmas spirit, they're passing the extra on to us teachers. Truthfully, I'm soaking it up. There's nothing like being around children this time of year!

Taylor earlier this week stuck his head in his cubby while putting away his blanket and pillow after nap time..and kept it there. I discovered him like that and asked what he was doing. His reply? I was just trying to make sure it would stay in. He then proceeded to take his head out and hit it on the top of the cubby in the process.

Poor Lilahbelle was getting sick today. She was just so sad, and kept crying. I really just wanted to hold her all day, especially after she fell asleep at her lunch table and again when reading a book after lunch. She ended up on her cot a little early and slept for the whole nap time.

Araminta had a shirt on earlier this week that said "Chocoholic". She kept asking me if it said "Chocolate Holly"

  1. Shopped early for presents or are still procrastinating: I did start shopping kind of early, but didn't finish up until last night. At least, I think I'm done...
  2. “Bah Humbug” or “Jingle Bells…”: Jingle Bells!
  3. Buy presents because you enjoy giving or because you feel obligated: Because I enjoy giving. If I see something that reminds me of someone, or I have a brilliant idea, I love to give!
  4. Enjoy all the holiday cheer or “Enough already. Give me my present.” I enjoy it and soak it up!!
  5. Open presents on Christmas Eve or wait until Christmas morning We do one present (our Secret Santa) on Christmas Eve but the rest are Christmas morning! :)

Saturday Six 12/16

Saturday Six

1. If you could receive only the gift of food this Christmas, which single item would you choose? Some coffeecake- it is a wonderful Christmas food :)

2. Dessert. What’s the first food that just came to mind when you read that word? Brownies

3. What do you eat more of when you’re trying to lose weight? I've never tried to lose weight, no idea!

4. Take the quiz: What holiday food are you?

You Are Eggnog

Rich, sweet, and probably a little drunk. Everyone who knows you tends to get a little fatter.

5. When you were a kid, did you ever really leave food for Santa Claus? If so, what was the typical fare you placed near the tree for Jolly Ol’ St. Nick? We left homemade cookies and a glass of milk :)

6. Do you tend to eat more, less, or about the same at Christmas dinner than you do at Thanksgiving dinner? Less. I much prefer the turkey at Thanksgiving to the ham at Christmas...

Saturday Six

Eanie, Meanie, Minie, Moe

By the way...
pick YOUR Christmas favorites...

sugar cookies, pecan pie, german chocolate cake, or a candy cane

snow, no snow but cold, sunshine but cold, sunshine and warm (as long as I don't have to drive in it!)

clothing, electronics, jewelry, or a gift card

Jingle Bells, Silent Night, White Christmas, or Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree

skiing, sledding, ice skating, or caroling

Christmas shopping, Christmas Eve joy, Christmas Day surprises, day after Christmas sales

BTW Sunday

Five on Friday 12/14

A bit late, but we had no internet last night...

Five on Friday: Commuting

1. Do you commute to work or another place (gym, playgroup, school, etc) on a regular basis? Do you drive, walk, take public transportation, or car pool? I commute to work 5 days a week. I drive my 2000 Subaru Forester (woohoo!)

2. How far is your commute and how long does it usually take you to get there? Usually, 15-18 minutes. Unless, of course, there has been snow and they haven't done anything to the roads, in which case it can take an hour, or more.

3. What kind of traffic do you usually deal with during your commute? Not too much on the way to work, considering my shift doesn't begin until 11am. On the way home I do hit some of the later rush hour traffic, but it's not too bad.

4. Do you prefer commuting shorter distances at slower speeds, longer distances at higher speeds, or some mix of the two? Hmm, a mix!

5. What is your commuting nightmare or worry? Just that I will run into an accident/construction and it will make me late for work. I HATE being late!

Five on Friday

It's been an interesting few days. I left for work yesterday, all packed and ready to join my family a few hours east of here for the weekend. The event?? My sister is flying back to the States after her semester in Europe and I was so excited to see her! A few hours later, my hopes were dashed as I called my mom and learned that a snowstorm was headed our way. It was unlikely that my sister would leave Chicago Saturday night as planned. is 7 pm on Saturday night and guess where I am? Not with my family, that's for sure! We have gotten a few inches of snow, followed by ice and then freezing rain. It's supposed to turn back to snow later this evening/early tomorrow morning. On the upside, I've gotten presents wrapped, three loads of laundry cleaned, dried, and folded...and that's about it!

I'm sorry sis, that I'm not there to welcome you at the airport, whenever you do arrive!
Love ya!

Friday Feast #172

Make up a word and give us its definition. cuntrabumpkinfeud- a fight between two country born and bred

What is currently your favorite song? Oh gosh, only one? I think it's still "Hey There Delilah" by Plain White T's. I heard this song WAY before it was popular, and when they started playing it on the radio, I was so mad!

What’s at the top of your Christmas wish list this year? I really don't have anything interesting- a gift certificate to the Half Price Bookstore would be fantabulous, and I have also found this new perfume I really really like- Curve Crush. I got a sample in a magazine a few days ago, though, and no one knows I want it! Also, it's WAY too expensive at Macy' maybe I'll find some at Amazon. :)

Main Course
Name a scent that reminds you of someone special in your life. A freshly cut live pine tree reminds me of my family. We have cut down a Christmas tree every December from a tree farm, tied it to the top of our van (a few years it has, yes, fallen off on snowy, country roads!) and eventually it stands in our living room decorated with ornaments the 7 of us kids made in grade school :)

Who is someone on television that you feel probably shouldn’t be, and why? Martha Stewart drives me nuts for some reason.

Picture Meme

I got this one from my friend Kelly...and it looked like fun so why not??

Here are the rules: Type the answer to each question into a Google image search, and you pick an image from the first page of results...easy peasy...and fun.a BIG tip make sure you set your Google search to use "strict filtering" (Filter both explicit text and explicit images).

1. Age on my next birthday

2. Place I would like to travel (Hawaii)

3. Favorite place (Ireland)

4. Favorite food (grilled chicken, lately!)

5. Favorite animal (red-eyed tree frog)

6. Favorite color (teal, as most of my clothes show!)

7. Town I was born in (Bangor, Maine)

8. Name of past pet (Bubbles)

9. Name of past love (Ben, haha)

10. My first name (Bethany...wouldn't it be COOL to go here??)

11. Bad habit I have (spending too much time on the computer!)

12. First job (babysitter)

13. Grandmother's Name (Mary Alice)

14. College Major (Child Development)

Give Me Five Monday

I know it's not Monday, but I just found this Meme and had to join in!

Give Me Five things about Christmas/Holiday cards: buying them, getting them ready, sending them, receiving them, displaying them, tips for recycling them, getting/sending 'family newsletters', traditions, pictures, etc.

1. I love, love, love sending Christmas cards!! I try and send them every year to family members, friends, and a few people I don't correspond with frequently but still enjoy keeping in touch with.

2. For the past 2-3 Christmases, I've been participating in a card exchange on my favorite message board. I send 15-20 cards and receive about that many-- so much fun!

3. The holiday/Christmas cards I receive are hung around a door or window on display and stay there until the end of January, probably. Once I get into the Christmas spirit, I just can't stop and hate to take down the decorations!

4. I enjoy reading the "brag letters" people send about their families. Most of the families we get them from have 5+ kids so it's fun to watch the kiddos grow up!

5. Every year, I buy Christmas cards after Christmas. By the time Christmas rolls around again, I have forgotten that fact and the result is many more cards than I need!

Give Me Five Monday

Midway through...

I can't believe it's Wednesday already! Where is this week going? After a wonderful, relaxing, productive weekend, I wasn't quite ready for the work week to begin again...oh well!

Last night I attended a Christmas party at my co-worker Amy's church. I didn't know anyone, but it was for a young adult group and I ended up meeting a few cool people and having fun anyway. The group is going bowling in January, so I am looking forward to joining them for that as well. I love to bowl!

This week, the kids at school have actually been VERY well behaved! What is up with that, since Christmas is looming ever closer??? LOL... I can't figure them out! The real, alive Christmas tree at our school toppled over last night, apparently once everyone had gone home. My boss took a poll in the morning on whether to keep it down or attempt to put it back up, and thankfully the votes swayed (haha) to keep it up! We did end up taking the heavy ornaments off and they were sent home with the kids this afternoon. I also helped my co-worker Elori jump start her van-- the battery has been dying for a few days and finally gave out. Her 5 year old son, Eamon, watched the whole jumper cable experience and was, of course, enthralled...what a male thing ;)

Just one kid funny from this week so far. There have been a few, but I can't remember them...haha!
Daley: When I was little I grew in my mommy's tummy~
Me: Yes, I did too...
Daley: Did you grow in Mrs. H's tummy? (Mrs. H is my co-worker, who is all of 8 years older than me. She will be THRILLED to hear this one!!)

7 Things About Me

I was tagged by my friend Kelly to do this meme... But I don't know 7 bloggers well enough to continue the trend...but if you want to do it, go for it and comment! I'll add your link :)

Let's see...

1. I technically own three Christmas trees. Last year, I bought a fake 5 ft. tree to put in the room of the house where I lived/nannied. It was beautiful, but got left behind in my bosses' attic when I moved because I couldn't fit ANYTHING else into the car. Then last weekend, my sisters and I bought a 3 ft. tree to put in my apartment because I needed something Christmassy. Two days ago in the mail arrived a cute little tree/bush that my friend Jenn sent, since she didn't think I had a Christmas tree. Oh well, can't have too much Christmas, right?

2. My boss put up a real Christmas tree at school today, and I almost hugged her for it. I love the smell of the real trees, and we have a real one at home. I just couldn't justify paying $30 for a real tree when my roommate and I will both be gone for over a week at Christmas.

3. I have found a new favorite Christmas cd- Relient K. My sister went to their concert a few weeks ago and brought her cd with her over Thanksgiving break. I made a copy and am hooked. Especially on songs #3 and 8. Check it out...

4. I've been working on Christmas cards all night...I have about 25 that are addressed and ready to go, they just need stamps. All of them have more than just my signature, which the recipients should be happy about. Haha.

5. I am so not done getting ready for Christmas. I still have my brother Sam to shop for...he's 17 and I have no clue what to get him. I also need something for my dad (thinking coffee from Whole Foods since I was given a gift certificate from there and have no clue what to use it for) and I need some stuff for my sister Rachael as well. In addition, I think I'm going to work on a cross-stitch project for my boss and closest co-worker. They are simple, just dish towels with a space where I'll put their name and some kind of Christmassy decoration (most likely a tree or candy cane). I did this years ago (my gosh...probably 9 or so years ago!) for a bunch of friends and they seemed to like them. Besides, I have no clue what else to do!

6. I think I'm going to re-take up candle making. I used to make candles all the time when I was about 17/18 and really enjoyed it. My parents still have all of my supplies, so when I'm home for Christmas and have some free time I'm going to try and get into a candle making groove. I'm actually pretty excited about it!!

7. I keep thinking about how much has changed in 2007. I am on my third job (fourth if you count babysitting I did when I didn't have a steady job), have moved three times, lived in two different states, changed careers, lived alone for three months, began's crazy. I have to say, I hope that 2008 is a happier year for me overall. Cheers!!

A few random thoughts

So, it's Friday night...and here I sit, alone. I'm just watching Gilmore Girls on DVD and writing Christmas cards. I must, must get most of the cards sent out tomorrow morning, since a few are going overseas. Procrastination= me...haha!

Anyway, I was at Mass earlier today (Holy Day) and was sitting alone, watching the couples, old and young, sitting together. I so badly wanted that to be me... I'm just tired of being alone I guess. I just want to get married, dangit! Why is it so easy for some people to find the "right one" and so hard for others? I feel like I'm at a standstill with meeting people, especially guys. After all, I'm not in college anymore, and my job is at a school where 99% of the parents are married, and the teachers are all female and almost all of them are 10+ years older than me, married as well. So where the heck am I supposed to meet someone? It just made me sad, sitting alone in church today. It seems alone is the word for me lately, but I'm not that thrilled about it.

In other news, I need to get a 2nd job after Christmas. While I love my job, I cannot afford to pay my bills and still buy food and gas. Sad, but true. I'm not sure where I'll look to work. I'm thinking about a library, or maybe just some extra babysitting? I think just 5-10 extra hours a week could really help me out. I might start by selling all (well, most) of my books online... we'll see!!

Ok, off to bed in a few!

Crazy week

I work in a school, and my GOSH the Christmas Fever has hit!! The kids, in all four morning classes have been bouncing off the walls. I've been asking the other teachers..."So, how was class today?" and most of the time they are replying that "It's crazy", "The kids were awful", or just "Ack!" Haha.

I've been working a bit extra this week which will come in handy for Christmastime. I worked early on Tuesday and this morning as well. I'm glad I didn't have to work early yesterday, because we got a good 5-6 inches of snow and I ended up leaving for work an hour and 20 minutes early. Thank goodness, because my lovely new city hadn't done a thing to the roads. The drive which usually takes 15 minutes took over 45. My car seemed to do pretty well on the snow, but I absolutely hate driving in snow...hate, hate, hate it. Why do I live somewhere where it snows???

Tidbits from this week...

Nappers have been wacky. Lots of littles being sent to the office because of laughter. Haha. Rage and I are so tired of giving the same messages over and over...

I learned that our school doesn't bring the kids outside when it's 32* or colder...good to know!

Galen had an awful bloody nose today. I asked him if he banged it on something, but he said no. There was blood absolutely everywhere.

I went out to breakfast with my friend Stacy last Friday. It was so good to get together and catch up. We are both at the same place guy wise (meaning we want to get married like now but have no prospective husbands in mind and have absolutely no clue how to meet anyone). :( Still fun getting together with her!

This week I found out that one of the girls I hung out with in Europe is pregnant. She's getting married in February...another unmarried friend is also pregnant, but hasn't told her family yet. Why she told me before her family, I will never know.

Lilahbelle at school today told me she and her brother were going home to "dash in the snow" cute is that?

Friday Feast #171

What was the last game you purchased? No idea...truthfully, it's been a few years. However, I want to get the Outburst game for my younger sisters. I loved the game when I was younger so I plan on playing it with them over Christmas break :)

Name something in which you don’t believe. reason, really...I just don't!

If you could choose a celebrity to be your boss, who would you pick? Lauren Graham! I love her in Gilmore Girls, and now that I'm watching the DVDs again... she's hilarious! Here is my all-time favorite LG videos- it makes me laugh every time!

Main Course
What was a lesson you had to learn the hard way? parents made me write a story about it and I'll never forget it!

Describe your idea of the perfect relaxation room. The room, painted a light blue, has a view of the ocean sunset. From the room, you can hear the waves crashing up on the beach, and hear the laughter of children as they experience the cold sensation for the first time. Ah.... :D

Thursday Thirteen

Thirteen Randoms

1. I stapled my finger once upon a time...yep! I was in 1st grade and remember the day vividly. OUCH. I missed the bus home because of it!

2. I broke my wrist when I was 12. I was running on the dewy wet grass, wearing flip flops. I slipped, and two girls in my VBS fell on top of me. The bones were in the shape of a C, and I had to go under anesthesia while they repaired it. I was in a cast for over 2 months and then a brace for another.

3. I moved 5 times before I was a teenager. I was born in Maine, moved to Pennsylvania when I was 5, and then to Ohio when I was 12. We lived in 2 houses in PA and 2 in OH.

4. I can write like this (see # 9)...picture below- can you do it?

5. I just got off the phone with two of my favorite friends. I hadn't talked to Jenn or Jess in forever, but got to talk to both of them on the same night and catch up!

5. We got our first snow last night. I hate, hate, hate driving in the snow, but school wasn't canceled, so to school I went. The drive that usually takes 15 minutes took over 45 but I was happy with how my new car handled the snow. Phew.

6. I am trying to work on Christmas cards this evening, but because of #5 haven't gotten anywhere. Oh well, maybe tomorrow?

7. I just looked at my latest cell phone bill. My GOLLY! I added my brother to my plan last month, and since then it seems like my bills have gotten so complicated and super expensive. Why?!?!

8. I've really been enjoying working extra hours subbing lately. I have two this week- yesterday and tomorrow and the extra $$ will come in handy for Christmas.

9. Speaking of Christmas, HOW can it only be 20 days away?!?!

10. My roommate and I just got a little Christmas tree for our apartment. My sisters decorated it on their visit this weekend and it's so cute!

11. I have the traveling bug again. Of course, it never really ends with me! I flew back in August, so not that long ago...and went to Nashville a few weeks back-- but I have no trips planned and that makes me sad!

12. I think I have a new favorite baby name. I am an absolute baby name freak and own a ton of baby name books...but anyway-- Audrey Malin is my new favorite for a girl. We'll see how long it lasts!

13. Sometimes, I still miss being a nanny. I loved my job in MA, and the kids...oh, how I miss them! Especially with Christmas coming up, I remember how much fun we had baking cookies and playing outside in the snow. I do miss living with children as well, but having my family close by now keeps me on my toes!

Friday Feast #170

What is your favorite carnival/amusement park ride? I really am not a roller coaster person! I enjoy the tilt-a-whirl and an inside roller coaster at Kennywood called the Exterminator. I think I only like it because it's dark and I can't tell where I am... I LOVE amusement parks, though!!

How do you react in uncomfortable social situations? Hmm...well, when awkward social situations arise (thankfully not often!), I just try and act myself and pray it ends soon! LOL.

On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being highest, how much do you enjoy discussing deep, philosophical topics? 1. I don't enjoy them at all! I did have two very interesting Philosophy classes while studying in Austria, but had an amazing teacher. Truthfully, it's just not my cup of tea. In fact, most of the time in philosophical discussions, I feel like an idiot because I just can't think like that!

Main Course
Did you get a flu shot this year? If not, do you plan to? No, I haven't. Since this is my first year back in a school after nannying for a few years, it's been recommended that I get one, but really, I'm all for no vaccinations, including flu shots. We'll see how this winter goes, but I'm hoping with hefty doses of Vitamin C and Airborne, I'll be just fine!

Approximately how many hours per week do you spend watching television? Let's see. I rarely actually watch my favorite tv shows on TV, usually I end up catching them online. In a good week, I'll watch The Office, Grey's, Private Practice, and Brothers and Sisters. So I guess about 3.5 :)

The kids at school were absolutely hilarious today. They just kept rolling out the punches:

Alessandra (age 5): My grandma died a few days ago
Me: I'm so sorry, Alessandra.
Maile (age 3): I have TWO grandmas!
Alessandra: Can I please have some milk?

Trinity (age 3): Jofus (aka Joseph) threw mulch in the air.

Taylor (age 4) has this coat from Baby Gap. Take a look at the close up pictures, and you'll see what he means when he says:

It's like my coat has a seatbelt!!

Lilahbelle (age 3) was in the bathroom. She came out and started to walk away until I reminded her to wash her hands. She replied:

But I was just coughing in the toilet!

Thursday Thirteen

Thirteen Random Things

1. I was reading my old LJ (livejournal) earlier this evening. I began it in '02 or '03, when I was a depressed teen. It is interesting to read my "teen thoughts" and it makes me glad I journal, both on paper and online. I love to look back at things.

2. My parents' 25th Anniversary is next month. I'm working on a present of sorts for them.

3. My youngest sisters are coming this weekend to help with said project. They haven't been to visit me without my mom, and I'm looking forward to their visit.

4. We are going to a Christmas concert and to see the Zoo Christmas lights while they are here. We'll probably fit in some Christmas shopping as well.

5. Most of my Christmas shopping this year will be done at the Dollar Tree this year, I fear.

6. Why? Because in the past 4 weeks, I've had no less than three car repairs totaling more than $1200. :(

7. After Christmas, I think I'll have to find a second job so I can pay my bills and still afford gas and food.

8. I am not a huge spender by any means. Lately, I've been eating small, small lunches and eating cheap frozen pizza or frozen entrees from Walmart. I don't spend much extra money, so why can't I have a job I love and still live?

9. My roommate and I are currently watching the Shrek Christmas on tv. It's actually kind of cute. And gross.

10. I miss reading! Over Thanksgiving, I read 5 or 6 books...need to turn OFF the computer and keep up the reading!!

11. I have a very cute magnet that is of triplet peas. I won it in 4th grade in a silent auction-- the thing is so cute! I'll have to take a picture next time I visit my parents since it's still on their fridge.

12. My coworker came back from visiting her parents in South America. Yay!! It's good to have my co-teacher back so we can get the kids back into a routine. I love how well we work together!

13. She brought my some Brazilian tea and soap. Yay!!

That's My Answer 11/27

What would you do first if you were given $1000 and the day off of work?

I would pay my parents back for a car repair that was done on Friday. Then I would drive out to my parents' house and take my family out for dinner...maybe a little bit of clothes shopping too? I need winter work clothes but can't afford them!

That's My Answer

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I was blessed to have both Thursday and Friday off from work (yay for working in a school!) and spent the four days off at my parents' house with 5 of my 6 younger siblings. My missing sibling is in Europe until next month.

Thanksgiving Day was spent laughing, eating, and just enjoying each other's company. We had two families over for dessert- we've done this for a few years now. One family has 9, almost 10 children, and the other has 6, so it made for a nice sized group of people! The adults all talk and the kids run off to play- the "party" went from about 6pm- 2am and was sooo much fun!

On Friday, we all just stayed around home. My sister, in her senior year of college worked on her interior design project all day, my 15 y/o brother, 12 y/o sister, 7 y/o sister and I played Scattergories, Pictionary, and Mastermind in between my reading books- I got though 5 during vacation!! That evening, some family friends came over to watch "Ratatouille". I hadn't seen the movie yet- it's cute!

On Saturday, a few of us went to see "Fred Claus". It was alright...definitely NOT worth $8-9 though. I was supposed to get together with my friend Marg as well, but that didn't pan out. I miss having friends. :(

Sunday was mostly church and then getting ready for the new week. My coworker is still gone (she went home to South America and returns tomorrow, yay!) so work has been kind of crazy. Yesterday the kids were wonderful at naptime, but today was just nuts. None of the kids who usually nap, napped. And the ones who don't nap anyway were spinning circles on their cots, laughing, and putting on a performance of the "YMCA"...haha!

And yet, I love, one of the little boys said to me (as I was arriving to work) "Miss Sweatshirt, where have you been? I missed you this morning!!"

And Jack, during roll call @ lunch time "I'm right heere!"

Friday Feast Thanksgiving Style

Imagine that you are deaf, dumb and insensitive to touch. What other image of happiness could you have? I'm sure my sight would give me many things to gaze at...the ocean sunset, frost on the trees, smiles of children

Do you collect anything? Baby name books

When do you start your Christmas? Well, I have begun looking for presents and listening to Christmas music already- so a few days before Thanksgiving I suppose

Thirteen Things I'm Thankful For

1. God in my life-- I'd like to believe I've grown closer to him this past year, since I've been through a lot.

2. My family-- my parents and 6 younger siblings. We have so much fun together and have stuck together throughout the years. Technically, I could use up 8 of my "I'm Thankfuls" on just my family... ;)

3. My friends- I've met a few new friends this year and grown with the old ones. I've also reconnected with quite a few old friends, mostly through Facebook. It's amazing to reconnect with a friend after 5 or 10 years. In addition, I am thankful for my online friends. I have met countless wonderful people online, have met quite a few of them IRL, and all of them are precious to me!

4. My job- A year ago, I never would have thought that I would be working as a teacher in the type of school that I am. Nor would I have imagined that I would leave my job as a nanny in MA...oh, how things change in a year!

5. My roommate- Before she moved in with me, I was a total mess. I also had a job I didn't like and was not enjoying living alone at thank you Shayna!

6. The fact that I can eat pretty much anything and not gain weight- thanks to my mom's side of the family's metabolism...

7. My skill with young children and babies. The 120+ kids at school absolutely love me as much as I enjoy working with them

8. My health...other than a few colds, my health and my family's has been very good this year.

9. My ability to write mirror image with my left hand while writing normally with my right. I'll have to demonstrate later...haha

10. My parents' friends who are like family to us. They'll all be over tonight to celebrate Thanksgiving with many desserts, bringing their 20 or so children with them. Most likely, they'll be here until 2 am or later...and we always have a blast!

11. My extended family- we had a family reunion in June in the mountains of NH, and ohhh, it was soo much fun! There are more than 20 grandkids now between me and my youngest cousin, who is just 7 months. Yes, we have our differences and disputes, but really cherish our time together.

12. My car- even though I've had it just two months and have already had to put $1300 work into it, it is my dream car. I just keep hoping that each repair is "the last for a while"...

13. $1 movie theater-- seriously the best thing ever. I plan on watching Ratatouille when I get back to town next week. But YAY for cheap movies!

Happy Thanksgiving!

That's My Answer 11/20

Do you have a passport? If you do, where was the last stamp from?

Yes, I have a passport. I am going to guess that the last stamp is from Poland...but I don't remember and don't have the passport handy to check. I do know that it's stamped from Europe somewhere from my semester abroad in 2004!

That's My Answer

Baby names

I'm not married yet, but I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE baby names. I own somewhere around 27 baby name books and am on my third copy of The Baby Naming Wizard... Swistle has an interesting conversation going on her blog about baby naming regrets...check it out! By the way, my current favorites for my children, if I ever have any, are Audrey Kathleen and Dominic Elias. These two have been set for a while now. I LOVE the name Abigail and would like to use that name first, but wanted to honor my mom, and don't care for Abigail Kathleen for some reason.

Falling out of a world of lies
1. What's the last thing you threw away? The box from my dinner

2. Have you ever been to Paris? Yes, in 2004. I lived in Austria for 4 months and Paris was one of the many places I was blessed to visit :)

3. What do you stare at? My computer screen, way too much!

4. What do you hurry for? Hmm...driving to my parents' house to visit!

5. Friday fill-in:
I could have been ___. I could have been in Austria this week had I not moved from MA.

Friday Five

I'm sick... or at least getting there! Since Saturday evening I've felt "off", and yesterday and today I've been plagued with a headache, a jarring feeling every time I move, and a sore throat. Lovely...guess that is what I get for working in a school with sneezing/coughing 3-6 year olds...haha!!!

In other news, I went to Nashville last weekend to visit my friend L. L and I played tourist and went to an Irish pub to hear live Irish music. In addition, we visited a few bead shops, walked around downtown, and went out to eat WAY too much. But oh, it was sooo much fun to be able to order real "sweet tea"!!

Friday Feast #169

What was your first “real” job? If babysitting children outside the family doesn't count , then my first job was as a custodian in the dorms of a local college the summer that I was 16. I worked 3 days a week that summer. I was a custodian for a few years during the summer, school breaks, and basically, what they say is true. "Once you start working, you don't stop!"

Where would you go if you wanted to spark your creativity? A church nearby me has a peaceful area with a lovely flowing fountain and wooden benches to sit on, so I've been there a few times. I also used to enjoy the "top of the hill" from where my parents live. It housed a bench, broken many times by teenage boys but still a place of quiet overlooking the 100+ acres of fields my next door neighbors own.

Complete this sentence: I am embarrassed when… run a yellow light and it turns red when I'm still in the line of vision...whoops!

Main Course
What values did your parents instill in you? A healthy sense of following through with discipline. One time, when I was about 10 or 11, I defied my parents...probably called them names, though I don't remember that part. I was a very strong willed one, and I'm sure my parents had given me a warning or two. I kept on challenging them and was then informed that I'd lost a trip to the lake with the family and my grandfather. I was not a happy camper, pleaded that I would "be good!!!!" at the lake, but it was a lost cause. My parents stuck to their guns, and the family took off for a wonderful day of fun. My mother and I stayed home and I remember it to this day!

Name 3 fads from your teenage years. Long skirts, long, flowing, curly hair, and no pierced ears... I was a Catholic, homeschooled gal, and this was the rage, if you could call it that. Around age 16 or 17, I started wearing short(er) skirts (or pants to church...gasp!), cut my straight hair to my shoulders, and by the age of 18 had 7 ear piercings. Ha.
