Okay, let's see. It's always hard for me to come up with things! Here goes!
1. I usually say that I'm the oldest of seven. In reality, it's more like 11, although 4 are in Heaven. My mom had live babies in '85 (me), '86, '88, '90, '92, '95, and '00. She had miscarriages in '89, '99, and '03 (twins). My siblings in Heaven are Michelle, Michael, Laura, and Nathan.

2. I've never once been on a date. I will be 23 next month...so that makes me sad, since all I've ever wanted to do is get married and raise a family.

3. When I was a teenager, I frequently spent my weekends tie-dying and making candles. I haven't done either in years!

4. I am an avid reader and will frequently order 20-30 books from the library at a time. I always have a pile of books "to read"-- tomorrow I plan to spend reading! I also own probably 500 or so books, and I've read them all.

5. I got addicted to the show "Friends" in the summer of '04. I was having an awful summer living with my parents and when I went to live in Europe, took the DVDs with me. I now own all 10 Seasons and watch them frequently. Sometimes, it's the only thing that can get me to laugh!

6. 2002 was the last year where I lived in one place all year. Since then I have been in college, Massachusetts, Virginia, Austria, and the city where I now live. It looks like I'll be moving this year, too, but at least I'm staying in the same city!

7. I am a complete baby name game addict. I have 27 (I think!) baby name books and currently use Nymbler a few times a day. Below is one of the easiest baby name game formats that I use on a name game board I'm a member of...basically all you do is choose a first and middle name from the names provided for each person. DH stands for Dear Husband, DW is Dear Wife, DD is Dear Daughter, and DS is Dear Son. Yes, I am a dork, but I have fun, and yes, there are people besides me who like to do this!

DH: Caleb, Levi, Julian, Isaac, Judah, Solomon, Elias
DW: Hannah, Susanna, Madelyn, Annie, Delilah, Sadie, Isabella
DD: Madeline, Debora, Davina, Madeleine, Zilla, Eve, Josephine, Anna
DS: Japheth, Ezra, Reuben, Ezekiel, Michael, Ivan, Ethan
DD: Isabelle, Rebecca, Hanna, Maeve, Keren, Jemima
DS: Eli, Jose, Owen, Gideon, Joel, Abraham, Asher
DD: Eva, Elisabeth, Ada, Nora, Angelina, Ruth, Sarah, Mara, Rachel
DS: Raphael, Zachariah, Jonas, Evan, Malachy, Nathan, Joseph
DS: Jesse, Tobias, Nathaniel, Jacob, Saul, Zechariah, Simon

So, for example, my family that I make up could be: Caleb Elias & Annie Isabella w/ Anna Josephine, Ezekiel Reuben, Hanna Maeve, Joel Asher, Rachel Angelina, Evan Joseph, and Nathaniel Jacob

:D

Ok...I am tagging Kelly and a few new friends who commented on my Friday Feast post! Amy, another Amy, Jennifer, Jodi, Laane, and Linda. Have fun, ladies, and leave me a comment when you've completed your 7!

Kids' Board Games

Now that the weather has been colder, we're unable to take the kids outside to play at school. I wasn't sure how I was going to like this, since I have a blast with the kiddos outside. We run races (yes, teacher runs too!), I chase the laughing young boys and play soccer with them, and the girls take turns "doing" my hair. I'll be glad when springtime comes and we can spent 1 or more hours a day outside, but for now, we've pulled out the board games! I have always, ALWAYS loved playing games with my family, be it Scattergories, Kings in the Corner, Payday, Monopoly, Go to the Head of the Class, or our newest family favorite, Apples to Apples.

However, the kids at school are between 3-6 so those games are too beyond them right now. One little girl, Alessandra, absolutely loves anything with matching or colors. Every day this past week (except Friday, because I was in court...more about that later!) she would come up and snag me as soon as circle was complete. No other child even had a chance...lol!

Some of the games we've been enjoying...
Go, Diego, Go- 1,2,3- Ok, to be honest, I haven't played this one yet. But I know we have it on our classroom shelves!! It has some cute animal/matching bingo-like pieces. It's not played nearly as much as some of the other games, though.

Chutes and Ladders- I'm not really enjoying this one, because for some reason I've always kinda hated this game. The The kids all love it, although the concept of going right, and then going left, then right again (because of the way the numbers fall) is confusing to most of the 3-4 year olds. Some of them are getting it, whereas others just start over at 1 every time they spin the dial. ;)

Sorry- There's one little girl who insists that she and her daddy play this together every day...and it may be true, since she's the only 4 year old that seems to get all of the rules. The younger children get so frustrated when everyone else is already moving around the board and they're still stuck in "Start" waiting to draw a card with a 1 or 2 on it. We play this very frequently!

Memory- Alessandra (same girl who loves Sorry and C & L) really enjoys this one as well. She's probably our student who plays games the most. Our Memory game came with something like 100 cards. Alessandra and I started out with about 20 cards. She wanted to add 4 more matches (8 cards), then 4 MORE matches. This girl enjoys the challenge, but 40 cards is extremely hard for some of the other children.

Feed the Kitty- It's kind of confusing for a few students when they're told to take one from the kitty, then put two more pieces in the kitty's dish. They don't like that too much!!

Leaping Lizards- Daley (a 4 y/o girl) and I play this a lot. In the beginning it was too confusing for the kids to move their lizards forwards or backwards (depending on which way the smiley/sad faced token lands) so we took that out and just had them always go forwards. :P Every time Daley moves ahead of me by one or two beads, she exclaims, "I'm winning! Miss S********* is not winning! Daley is winning!!!" It's pretty amusing!

A couple more "works" in our Montessori school classroom currently being used:
(we use a lot of Melissa & Doug items)

T-Rex puzzle- The younger boys love this puzzle! It has large pieces, but is pretty big.

Cutting food & tools- This is used in our "housekeeping" area. I think the school has had it for at least 15+ years, and one of the play knives broke this past week. They're made of wood, though, and very sturdy.

~~
Onto other things...beginning Monday, I will be part of a jury for a case downtown. They expect it to take 5 days, so there won't be any cute kidisms this week :( unless it happens to end early and I get to go back to work! It's my first time on jury duty and so far has been an interesting adventure. Yesterday I headed downtown for jury selection. It was a lot of waiting around. We watched a 20 minute video on the importance of being a juror and how it's the highest form of civic duty, blah, blah, blah. We took a break for lunch but most of us stayed in the selection room, so the woman who was taking care of us put on the movie "Bringing Down the House". We only saw the first 20 minutes but it was pretty funny! We were then ushered into the courtroom, where we sat and waited some more. Once the judge and lawyers began asking questions the two hours proceeded rather quickly. Since I didn't have any issues with questions they were asking, I was silently listening the entire time and was selected for the jury.

I stopped by work last night to give my boss and co-workers the news that I won't be in next week. My poor co-worker...but hey, this is what she gets for leaving me for two weeks last November. ;) Nah, she'll be fine, but it's amazing how well the two of us work together. When one of us is absent, the other one seems to need to work 200% even though we have a helper (usually our boss or another co-worker) in the room helping. I'm going to miss her in the summertime if we don't work at the same place!
_____

kidisms of the week
~~
Vic: I'm a real live fireman. I had to go into our house when it was burning and pull out the fireman since he couldn't breathe. (Btw, I have NO clue where this came from!)
~~
Ami: (hugging me) I love it when you come help in our class. I love you.
~~
Explaining how babies are made to another student
Maxwell: Well, the mom has the baby in her belly. When she says it is time for the baby to come, the Daddy cuts the string and then they go to the hospital. That's how.
~~
And then, we had a sweet little boy who brought in his dad's gallbladder stones to share during morning circle. My poor boss was subbing in our room that morning and I thought she was going to faint of surprise. After close to 20 years of running the school, she turned to me afterwards and just said, "Well, that is a first!!"

Saturday Six 1/26

1. You go to a restaurant and order alcohol: based on past experience, how likely are you to be carded? (Are you of legal drinking age?) Very likely, and that's how it should be, since I'm only 22. If I don't get carded...well, sometimes I worry! ;)

2. You’re selecting a new physician and you learn that the doctor you are visiting is in his twenties: would you feel any less confident about his ability? No, as long as he was in his late twenties. I have two uncles who became excellent doctors at a young age.

3. One must be 35 years old or older to run for president. Based on arguments about experience, should the age be increased to 45? Why or why not? I don't really care much about politics...the president could be 25 for all I care, if s/he's smart enough to win over America!

4. Take the quiz: What age do you act?

You Act Like You Are 29 Years Old

You are a twentysomething at heart. You feel like an adult, and you're optimistic about life.
You feel excited about what's to come... love, work, and new experiences.

You're still figuring out your place in the world and how you want your life to shape up.
The world is full of possibilities, and you can't wait to explore many of them.

5. When you were in high school, what age, in your opinion, qualified someone as being “old?” When I was in HS, oh gosh...25 probably!

6. Do you find yourself better relating to people older than you or younger than you? (Sorry, your same age group isn’t an option in this one!) Almost always the older people. I'd have to say that about 95% of my friends are older than me. Some just by a few years, others with a more significant age gap between us.

Interesting Weekend

I had an interesting weekend. I drove to NJ with my Dad and sister Amata on Friday. We headed up East for a visit with my grandpa, and it was beyond an emotionally draining weekend. My grandpa is going to be 80 in March. About two years ago was the last time I saw him lucid...from there, he went downhill. In June '06, he traveled to my parents' house (about 10-12 hour drive for him). During his visit, they began to notice a few inconsistencies in his stories, and he mentioned to my dad that he was having double vision. My dad drive him back to NJ that time, to find that his eye dr. had decided he shouldn't drive more than ONE mile...and he had taken an approximately 400 mile trip. At that point he moved in with my aunt, until he fell and needed hospitalization. He was then in the hospital for about 10 days that fall ...from there he moved into the nursing home where he still lives.

It was so, extremely hard to see him like he was. It brings the saying to mind "You don't appreciate what you have until it is taken away." So, so true in this case. He used to be my grandfather, a man who loved nature, photography, being an involved deacon at his church, and his family.

Now...he seems to be nothing of the man he was. Now, he is a man who during our Saturday night dinner, put his salad in his soup, and ate it as such. A man who didn't remember who we were until our names were spoken, but rather knew that he should recognize us. A man who proclaimed "See those wonderful yellow apartments buildings? Those are new!" to a parking lot full of school buses. A man who dumped milk into his coffee at the diner, when he usually drinks it black. A man who stole my uncle's drink, thinking it was his...and passed my uncle's oatmeal cookie around the dinner table as if it were Communion. A man who spoke to us as if we were in a church RCIA meeting rather than his family, sitting around supporting him. A man who proclaimed to my dad, "Where is your star baby- the wife??", unable to recall my mom's name. A man who came up to me in his nursing home with his shirt not buttoned even halfway and asked "I look okay?"-- how humbling it is to help clothe an older member of the family.

And yet, for one milli-second during church on Sunday, I caught a glimpse of the old Grandpa, when he leaned over to me and whispered "It's the people that make the parish." One lucid thought the whole weekend, and one I will treasure forever-- because for just a second, he was back.

How many times per day do you usually laugh? Oh my gosh, I have no idea, but it's alot. I work with kids, who are hilarious (see all the "kidism" posts!) and I love it. Between my co-workers and the kids...maybe 50x a day? I'll have to count... ;)

Soup
What do your sunglasses look like? They are actually men's- they were on sale and the only ones I really liked. They're light green. I lose sunglasses like nothing else, so I don't like to spend more than $5 on a pair. I probably go through at least 5-8 pairs a year. It's ridiculous!

Salad
You win a free trip to anywhere on your continent, but you have to travel by train. Where do you go?
I LOVED traveling by train while in Europe-- ah, the memories! I would probably go to San Diego...or Alaska. Do they have trains that go from the Mid-West to Alaska?

Main Course
Name one thing you consider a great quality about living in your town/city.
I am less than 10 minutes from church and many shopping/restaurants, 15 minutes from work and my favorite library. I'm used to living in the country at least 1/2 hour from everything, so I am enjoying it!

Dessert
If the sky could be another color, what color do you think would look best?
Maybe it could be tie-dyed. That would be pretty cool!

Know & Tell Friday 1/25

Question 2
If you could be guaranteed a spot on the reality show "Survivor", would you go? Yes, I think it would be an amazing experience. I would LOVE it if it were filmed on the ocean...haha!

Question 3
Meanest thing you ever did to a sibling??? Oh gosh...well, being the oldest, I was pretty brutal at times. I used to pinch, HARD. I was very domineering and the sister under me was pretty easygoing back there. I think my siblings still have scars from me...SORRY guys!!

Question 4
Best Fashion Era... 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's or now... I really only remember the 90s and now...but I hear the 60s/70s were pretty cool!

Question 5
Have you ever skipped to the end of a book before you finished reading the book? A few times, but I only do it if, for some reason, the book just isn't keeping my attention and I want to know how it ends. 99% of the time I read the whole thing.

Question 6
What's the most humanly impossible thing you will ask God to do this year? Haha, how about having me engaged by December 31? I don't even have a boyfriend...but I would love, love, LOVE to be married in 2009...a girl can dream, right?

Question 7
What is one thing you could do this year to increase your enjoyment of God? Well, I am going on 2 mission trips...I'm hoping they'll be wonderful, enriching trips!

1) If you could teach one person a lesson in humility, who would you choose? Haha, well just for kicks, my 15 year old brother Brian. He calls himself "The Great"

2) Do you prefer silver or gold jewelry? Definitely silver. For some reason, I've never been a fan of gold jewelry.

5) Show and Tell. What comes to mind first when you see this picture? Or, tell a story if it reminds you of one.
It reminds me of being in the boondocks in the White Mountains of NH. My uncle, his girlfriend, and my sister Shae were heading to North Conway, and hadn't come across a car in miles. Suddenly, we were caught in a traffic jam, even though we were in the woods. It was the strangest thing...

Where do you go for advice? Usually to my roommate or my Mom

What is the sickest you've ever been? Hmm...I've never been horribly sick, but once I slept for 16 hours, had a fever and hallucinated...I suppose that's the worst. Either that or the chicken pox, which I had when I was 5.

Saturday Special 1/19

Posting early since I'm going away for the weekend :)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~My Personal Preferences~
1. Quiet evening at home or Out on the town?: It really depends on my mood. There are some nights where I'd rather just stay in and read/watch a movie, but others when my roommate and I are ready for a good night out!
2. Watching a movie or Reading a good book?: Reading a book for sure :)
3. Ordering a meal or cooking one yourself?: I don't mind cooking and it costs less so I'm all for it lately!
4. Going for a walk or taking a ride in the car?: I love taking a walk, although not lately, since it's been in the 20s!!
Mission Trips & Weekend
This week has brought many exciting opportunities. I LOVE to travel...well travel I will be doing this year!!
This weekend my dad, sister Amata and I are going to NJ to visit my grandpa. It's only for a few days (returning late Sunday night) but it will be nice to see him. I haven't seen him since I was moving from MA back here last March.
In February I'm going to be attending a worship conference in DC with a local young adult group. I am excited, since I'm just getting involved with the group- they seem to be very active and a fun crew!
In March I will be going to New Orleans for a mission trip, along with one of my friends. We have a bus load going but I don't really know anyone else. It should be an amazing experience!
And finally, my most exciting trip of the year-- I will be going to BELIZE!!!! this summer for 12 days- another mission trip and I am completely psyched!! I just put the deposit down for this trip today and now all I have to do is raise a few thousand dollars. This will be interesting!!
Friday Feast #176
Appetizer
What is your favorite beverage? Iced tea with sugar aka sweet tea. I loaded up on it while I was in Nashville in November!!
Soup
Name 3 things that are on your computer desk at home or work. I actually don't have a computer desk at either place, but in my cubby at work- lotion, kids' books galore, and a water bottle. Exciting, I know!
Salad
On a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being highest), how honest do you think you are? I am probably a 9. I am very honest, and my family, friends, co-worker's etc. know it. Sometimes I'm too honest, heh.
Main Course
If you could change the name of one city in the world, what would you rename it and why? Probably the town where I was born- Bangor, ME. It just sounds...boring. I love names like Hope Valley, Bloomingdale, Springvale...pretty names, I guess!!
Dessert
What stresses you out? What calms you down? Stresses me out- money issues. I HATE money. Calms me down- reading :)
Know & Tell Friday 1/17
Question 1: Which is worse? Being gossipped about or being lied to? In my opinion, being gossiped about. Brings me back to my teen years...not fun!
Question 2:
I see that a lot of ladies out there in blogville are "Starbucks" gals... What is your favorite "Starbucks" drink? I'm actually not a huge Starbucks fan, but that's probably because I don't drink coffee, lol! However, I got $80 of Starbucks gift cards for Christmas (from students' parents) so I got an iced chai latte and it was delicious. I guess that's my favorite drink from Starbucks! :)
Question 3:
Name an embarrassing moment (Make it good). How sad is it that I don't even have a good embarrassing moment... How about tripping, falling, and breaking my wrist on the first day of VBS in the summer of '97. Maybe in a few more years I'll have something more memorable.
Question 4:
I figure that most of us ladies out there are bargain shoppers and that we find ways to save money, but what is one thing that you don't mind spending your bucks on? Baby name books, because I know I'll use them for years to come! :D
Question 5:
Is it hard for you to ask some to forgive you when you have wronged them? I have always had a very hard time admitting when I was wrong and someone else was right...It's SO hard for me! Seriously, when I was a child it would take me hours to apologize and admit wrongdoing.
Question 6:
Give one of your best parenting tips...something that you have learned through experience... I am not a parent yet, but as a former nanny I have a few experiences. When I am a parent in the future, I hope to cherish the younger years of my children. I know how fast they pass by-- the children I nannied for in 2005 are now between the ages of three and 13 and have matured so much in the past 2.5 years.
Saturday Nine 1/14
1. Do you have a former lover who you feel is “the one who got away”? Nope
3. Did you go to theater, museums, or art galleries growing up? Not very often. My family didn't have much money and we preferred saving our money for vacations to see extended family. :)
4. What shoes are you wearing right at this moment? None, I hate wearing shoes.
5. What do people who know you think is your best feature? Physically- my eyes, otherwise, my ability to care for children
9. How well do you get along with your family? Pretty well, as long as I am not living with my parents for an extended amount of time. I enjoy spending time with my siblings, especially Lily and Rachael- they were very young when I moved out of the house.
Saturday Nine
Monday, Monday!
2008 is definitely not slowing down yet! I guess I should stop thinking that it will...
My sister Amata (#3 of 7 kids) was here from Tuesday-Thursday of last week. Wednesday night we got ice cream at my favorite place downtown (they have odd flavors like guacamole, chai tea, rose petal, etc..fun to discover new flavors!) and grabbed a pizza from across the street. The rest of the evening we were scrapbooking and photo booking it. I'm trying to catch up on my 2006 photos still...yikes!
On Friday evening, Shayna and I had our friend Lita over. Sadly, Shayna and I were both extremely exhausted and headed to bed before 10:30...so much for a fun girls' night. It was good to have Lita over though, since she hadn't been here since before Christmas. Lita and I are going on the same mission trip in March. By the end of the year, Shayna, Lita and I may all be living together-- we'll see!
The weekend wasn't extremely interesting. Shayna's friend Nick was here for a night, so we all played Clue. Otherwise, I was working on my photo books and baby name CAFs. Yes, I am a dork, but I love it! :)
Today it was back to work. I'll only work three more days this week, as I'm taking Friday off to go visit my ill grandfather up East. My dad and I will travel all day Friday and Sunday, with just Saturday to spend time with him. I haven't seen my g-pa in close to a year, so while I'm looking forward to it, it also scares me because he has Alzheimer's. Last time I was there (March '07), he didn't even recognize me. It's so hard to deal with Alzheimer's.
After work today, I hung out with my relatively new friend Tia. Tia and I met last April when my friend Clln and I came here to look for apartments. Tia grew up about 10 minutes from me, but we weren't in the same high school. However, we worked at the same college for a few years and as soon as we were introduced I remembered seeing her around campus. We clicked immediately and I've enjoyed hanging out with her ever since. Apparently we get along wonderfully because we just spent three hours sitting in a Wendy's talking!! Isn't it amazing how there are a few special people in life that you instantly "clicked" with? I love that!!
~~
Kidisms of the Week
First of all, one of the little girls (age 4) signs her name like this, and it was just too cute to pass up today!
~~
Me: Are you feeling better, Alessandra? (she was sick most of last week)
Alessandra: Yes, I had the striped sick-a-ness. It made me cough a lot.
(She was talking about strep throat)
~~
Grace: I got a karaoke machine for Christmas. We're going to try and see if I will be on "American Idol".
~~
Lilahbelle: My mom is OLD! She is 15 1/2 and she can drive. She's older than my dad, too!
Me: Wow, how old is your dad?
Lilahbelle: 70!
(BTW, I know her parents. Both of normal age!) ;)
~~
My co-worker: So, where would you find a farm?
Galen: In the middle of nowhere!
~~
Maile: This is my dog's tooth, it fell out of his mouth
Grace: Did the tooth fairy come and give him a bone or money?
~~
Trinity: It's my birthday! When are my shoes going to get bigger??
My Band's First Cover
Stole this one from Skittles' Place...
You are about to have your own band's CD cover. Follow these directions to the letter. It's fun and requires no thought at all.
Go to......1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:RandomThe first article title on the page is the name of your band.
2. http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3The last four words of the very last quote is the title of your album.
3. http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days/The third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.
4. Use your graphics program of choice to throw them together, and post the result as a comment in this post. Also, pass it along in your own journal because it’s more amusing that way.
Here is mine:
Give Me Five Monday 1/14
Give Me Five things you like and/or dislike about your job.
1. I love, love, love working with children. Kids have been in my life for as long as I remember and all of my post-college jobs have revolved around them. They are honest, spontaneous, and I love it!
2. I love my co-workers and boss. My boss loves to talk about what's going on in my life, and after a few years of nannying, and therefore not having any co-workers, I enjoy the camaraderie. My coworkers range in age from 50s-26 (I am the youngest by a few years!)
3. I love how fast the day speeds by when I am at work. I work 7 hours a day, 5 days a week. Between lunch, naptime, circle, outside playtime, choosing works, and cleaning the classroom, my co-worker and I stay pretty busy!
4. I love how close I live to my job- it's only a 15 minute commute...however, this may change when my roommate and I move later this year. Hopefully not by much!!
5. I don't like my salary. I am going to have to get a second job soon for evenings and/or weekends because my current job barely pays the bills. I am working on being more frugal with my money in 2008, but it's hard!!
Saturday Six 1/12
1. How well do you feel that you know your inner self? Pretty well. I believe I can always learn more about myself through my hardships, but I do know myself.
2. Take one more quiz: How does your intrapersonal intelligence rate?
Your Intrapersonal Intelligence Score: 68%
Your Intrapersonal Intelligence is High
You have a great understanding of who you are, and your place in the world.
You know what path you're on. And you are excited about your future.
You're always deepening your inner knowledge and introspection. And enjoying it every step of the way.
3. How much do you trust your own instincts? I have really good instincts (I think!). I can often tell (or feel...) when something good/bad is going to happen. I'm level-headed and observant, though, and I definitely think that helps!
4. Do you find that you are good or bad at giving people advice? While at times I feel my advice is worthless, especially in the area of dating and relationships, my friends seem to really appreciate my advice...apparently they think it's good!
5. If you had to go back in time and start over, erasing a certain period of time in favor of a “do-over,” would you want to go back 20 years, 10 years, 5 years or 1 year? Oh man...maybe 5 years. I would like to re-do some of my college experiences and 5 years ago would put me at 17 years old- my first semester living on campus. :)
6. After selecting the answer above, you were suddenly informed that the “do-over” was not mandatory, after all, would you still do it? Nope, absolutely not. I really like my life right now, and 2007 was awful...something I definitely don't want to repeat right now!
Friday Feast #175
Appetizer
What is your middle name? Would you change any of your names if you could? If so, what would you like to be called?
I have one middle name (Ann) and then two Confirmation names (Philomena Bernadette). I chose my own confirmation names when I was 12 and wouldn't change them... I still admire St. Philomena, and after being in Lourdes where St. Bernadette is from...no changing it! I would change Ann if I could, though. Reason being that I have always felt like Bethany Ann is repetitive... plus, I'm a baby name freak so to me, Ann is just boring. If I could choose today, I think I'd change Ann to Claire or Abigail. I wouldn't feel bad about losing Ann because I wasn't really named after anyone...if I was, it would be a different story!
Soup
If you were a fashion designer, which fabrics, colors, and styles would you probably use the most?
I am positive that I would use fleece and flannel a lot, as I love the feel of them. As for colors, most of my clothes would likely be in blues and greens, or of a tie-dyed pattern. I used to tie-dye years ago and love anything tie dyed! I can tell you this though, I would be an awful fashion designer!! ;)
Salad
What is your least favorite chore, and why?
For some reason, I do not enjoy dusting nearly as much as vacuuming or doing the dishes...
Main Course
What is something that really frightens you, and can you trace it back to an event in your life?
I have two things that really frighten me- the first one is appendicitis. I have NO idea why, but I've been scared of this for years and years. Once I heard the average age to get it was 12, I've been less scared, but still think of it frequently. The second one is driving on icy roads. I have gone off the road a few times in icy conditions and it makes me weak just thinking about it. Why do I live in a place where it snows??
Dessert
Where are you sitting right now? Name 3 things you can see at this moment.
I am sitting on my bed...let's see 1) All of my Christmas cards lined up on my wall in an organized display 2) Pile of books I want to read in the next few months and 3) Sticky wall flowers that I found at the $ store-- cheap, but they add a nice touch to an otherwise pretty plain room!
Know & Tell Friday 1/10
Question 1: Favorite season and why? My favorite season has been spring for as long as I remember. As for why... I love the warmer and longer days, plain and simple!
Question 7: Think Evangelism...What kind of witness (telling others about Christ, spreading the gospel) are you? I don't know, really. I have no problem mentioning that I am Christian...I probably do so several times a week. I consider myself a good person, helping others- all I can say is that I try my best!
Take Five Tuesday 1/08
This is a brand new 2008 meme...so join in!!
List 5 random things about you
1. I am a strong willed night owl. It's after 2 am and I am still wide awake.
2. #1 is bad, bad, bad when you have to work the next day!
3. I blocked out most of my growing-up years because grade school (aka the children in the school!) were awfully mean to me because I wore glasses and was smart.
4. My sister Amata and I had a long talk about #3 this evening.
5. Ironically, I am "friends" (on Facebook, anyway) with some of the people who made my life miserable over 15 years ago...
Take 5
Busy few days!
I cannot believe it's already Tuesday evening...technically, Wednesday morning already. Anyone else feel like the week is flying by?
Yesterday I worked (first day back since Christmas!) and then headed to a party for the big football game. I don't really care one bit about football, but it was fun to get together and out of the apartment for a while. A couple that I had met a few times before was hosting the party, and it was just a casual thing- about 12 people or so. My friend's co-worker's were all there, and they're hilarious. I had met a few of them before, but it's always good to meet new people, at least for me! I didn't get back to the apartment until close to 1 am...which is SO rare for me!
Today I worked again and when I got back to the apartment, my sister Amata had arrived! She's 19 and fresh back from a semester in Europe... I saw her over Christmas but she came to stay a few days with me. We went out for dinner at a nice Italian place (compliments of my boss, woohoo!) and then browsed Barnes and Noble for awhile. Can you tell I love bookstores? We were also looking for new jeans for me, since my one awesome pair ripped the other day. However, none of the stores had any under $50 so it just wasn't happening! We're relaxing now and watching Hitch-- almost time for bed!!
Kidisms of the Week
Jack: (after a 1.5 hour nap)- That was NOT a good nap. No. It was an awful nap. Aww, MAN!
~~
Araminta: For Christmas, I got a Hannah Montana Doll. And a microphone. And Dylan and I got a tent, and last year, Dylan got a drum, and... (on and on)
~~
Sydney: I am getting a new brother or sister when it's my grandma's birthday!
Me: Oh, wow! Congratulations! When is your grandma's birthday?
Sydney: I don't know, exactly. But my birthday is in April, and my cousin's birthday is in April. On the same day, too...but I don't know when my grandma's birthday is. no, I don't know.
~~
And my dear sister, Amata (the one who is visiting): Let's see, does this Bible have Ephesians? (flipping through the pages)... Galatians, Guinness...wait, Guinness isn't a book of the Bible! (can you tell she's been drinking a bit too much, perhaps?!?!)
QOTW 1/07
What is the profession you most often mentioned when people would ask you what you wanted to be as you were growing up?
A teacher- for years, and years. Guess what I am now?? A teacher... LOL
QOTW
That's My Answer 1/07
What celebrity are you tired of hearing about lately?
Britney Spears. She needs serious help, and she's not going to get it with all the paparazzi hanging around, imo...
TMA
Curious 1/07
1) If heaven looked like the inside of a friend's home, whose would you pick? Hmm...my aunt and uncle's house...filled with children and pictures of loved ones, and you can see the ocean from their road...I LOVE it there!
2) If you could redesign your country's flag, (how) would you? It would be blue, with a yellow sun shining down on the 50 states
3) What question--that you have never worked up the courage to ask--would you like to ask your best friend? I have no idea...I don't really have a best friend anymore
4) Who has caused you the most frustration in your life? The girls I used to call the Three Musketeers. They were awful to my sister and me for years, but we had no other friends so we stupidly put up with them. One of them is a nun now, another engaged, and the third married and a new mom. Sometimes I still have trouble talking to them though...it's sad.
5) Show and Tell. What comes to mind first when you see this picture? Or, tell a story if it reminds you of one.
It reminds me of sitting by the ocean at our 2000 family reunion on Cape Cod. I would go sit at the beach every night and watch the sun set...aww, memories!
Brainiac
You're a Part Time Brainiac
No doubt about it, you have the potential for big brain power.
But potential doesn't get you to genius. It's going to take some work.
Like most smart people, you enjoy a good intellectual challenge every now and then.
But you do tend to shy away from anything difficult, frustrating, or complex.
Push yourself to think, learn, and explore more... even when it feels bad.
You have the capacity to solve amazingly difficult problems. You just need to let yourself do it.
That's My Answer 1/05- Connected
How connected are you? Can you be reached by cellphone, internet, email, etc…. at all hours of the day? Do you ever (would you ever?) shut it all off, and how long could you go without technology?
I can usually be reached at my cell phone, unless I am at work. I make a huge effort not to check my email via my phone at work, but sometimes it's hard. I love the computer and the internet, so being disconnected is hard for me. However, I CAN do it, and have, for a week or so. But I'm always ready to come back to my virtual home. ;)
That's My Answer
That's My Answer 1/05- Watching What??
What are you watching since the writers strike has brought new tv show episodes to a halt?
I've been watching a lot of re-runs. I rented Grey's from Netflix and have also been delving into a few new shows--lately, 30 Rock, Samantha Who, The Office, and Gilmore Girls have been consuming my TV time.
That's My Answer
Saturday Six 1/05
1. Do you tend to write in manuscript, cursive, or a combination of the two? A mixture of the two
2. When you were learning how to write in school, which letter gave you the most trouble? A cursive Q for sure!
3. If you could redesign any cursive letter, which would you choose and why? That darn Q!! I think the regular Q is cursive-looking enough...haha
4. Do you consider your handwriting to be more neat or less neat than the average person’s? A little neater. I usually have pretty neat handwriting.
5. When you sign your normal signature, roughly what percentage of the letters in your name (as you sign it) are clearly legible? Um...maybe about 60%...my last name usually looks awful!
6. Take one more quiz: What does your handwriting say about you?
What Your Handwriting Says About You
You are a fairly energetic person. You know how do pace yourself, and you deal well with stress.
You are somewhat outgoing, but you're not a natural extrovert. You think first before you act. You tend to be independent, rational, and logical.
You are balanced and grounded. You know how to get along well with others.
You need a bit of space in your life, but you're not a recluse. You expect people to give you a small amount of privacy, and you respect their privacy as well.
You are somewhat traditional, but you are also open to change. You listen to your head and your heart.
You are a decent communicator. You eventually get your point across, but sometimes you leave things a bit ambiguous.
