New Orleans Part 2: The Work We Did

We worked in a residential area for 3 1/2 days which was really interesting. I was able to stay within 1-2 blocks the entire time and spent most of my working hours nailing boards onto porch ceilings. I am now a master porch-maker! The dad I was working with was SO incredibly patient with me and the other workers and for that I am forever grateful. Thanks to him I now have skills that I can carry with me for a lifetime! The work was definitely tiring, and draining at points but I think we all learned many valuable skills.

This is a church that Extreme Home Makeover built- my group helped to finish the landscaping and mulching since EHM apparently skipped out early ;)

The end of this porch was the death of me...see that tiny piece on the far right? It took Mr. L and I a good 30-45 minutes to get it and the piece to its left up and in like a puzzle piece. I thought my arms were going to fall off!

I also got to show off my spackling skills- my dad would be so proud!!

We had a 1/2 day to explore downtown New Orleans, so...

New Orleans Part 4: The Leftovers

Ok, so a few of the girls and I were taking a break from working on Friday afternoon, when we saw this...

and decided to follow the smell of smoke coupled with the sound of sirens to this...

It was crazy...we could feel the heat and breathe smoke because we were so close!

Give Me Five Monday 3/31

Give Me Five future events you are currently looking forward to and/or planning or attending.

1) This coming Sunday is my sister Shae's senior art show-- most of my family will be present and it should be a blast!

2) Come mid-August, my new friend Mac and I will be moving to an apartment together-- we've only known each other for about 2 months but we get along fabulously and I am SO happy that I don't have to live alone!!

3) Sometime in April, I will be visiting relatives in DC...I love car trips!

4) and sometime in May- the northeastern US will be my place to see family and friends- I'm looking forward to meeting my friend Mon's baby Georgia!!

5) Belize!!! Beginning mid-July I will be spending two weeks there doing missions work and cannot wait!

Back from New Orleans!

I'm back!! After a week of spending my days waking at 6, doing construction work all day, and heading to bed at 10, I'm still adjusting back into life. I had a wonderful time and will blog more about it, complete with many pictures, later this week!!
