Better Day!

I was in a MUCH better mood today, so my stress level is down a bit. I'm looking forward to the weekend, so I'm excited that tomorrow is Friday!

My favorite kidism of the week so far...

AaJay: Where is your mom?
Me: I don't know...she might be at her house, I guess.
AaJay: Where is that?
Me: Three hours from here.
AaJay: Oh, so you don't live with her?
Me: Nope.
AaJay: Do you have a roommate?
Me: No...
AaJay: Do you have a husband?
Me: No...
AaJay: So you live alone, basically?
Me: Yep!
AaJay: So, when are you going to get a baby?

Ohhh...if only it were that easy!

Since I'm babysitting Chubster again, so far sans bugs

I've been able to sit down and just chill. Whew! So far, my week has been: frisbee golf, dinner, ice cream, work, babysit, work, babysit...

To come: babysit, work, work, mom & sisters coming in town (at least I hope they still plan on coming! I haven't checked recently...)

Although really, my busy week hasn't been the source of my stress this week.

Work is.

I LOVE my job. Truly, I do. It's not often that we (Cara & I) or I get praised for our classroom or work we do with the children. My boss has a strange attitude towards Cara. I don't know why, Cara doesn't know why...but she does. Example in point. I wasn't at work Monday, so A was subbing for me. The following day, A was complimented by my boss for the clean classroom (mine and Cara's). Cara was the one who cleaned. Yet, even after A told my boss that, my boss never went to Cara and extended the compliments to her. This kind of thing happens OVER and OVER. Which (not surprisingly) makes Cara quite hesitant to spend *extra* time cleaning, since we already do a great job, every day. You know?

So anyway, Friday is a BIG day at our school, the kind that demands EVERYTHING be in its place, EVERYTHING be clean, etc. Which is fine. However, in addition to that, my boss has been making some strange requests and observations. She's been coming in our lunch room, scrutinizing our 28 lunchers...who, face it, aren't perfect. They are, after all, 3, 4, 5, or 6 years old. Hello...they are going to be silly. They are going to spill food, and sit incorrectly, and be extremely loud. I know that, Cara knows that, ALL the teachers at my school know that. Still, our boss comes in and just *watches* us...and it makes Cara and I very uncomfortable.

Cara thinks she's coming in to find things for us to do for Friday. She may be boss is stressed, she's projecting it onto us, and we are all stressed. As a result, we are getting low on patience this week.

Long story....but basically, I'm stressed about work. After Friday, it will be much better...until then, can you offer up a prayer for myself, Cara, and the rest of our co-workers? Thanks!

While babysitting recently, I mixed up a bottle of formula and rice/fruit cereal as I usually do for Mr. Chubster, age seven months.

I had just started feeding Chubster when I noticed the formula wasn't completely milky-looking. In fact, it looked like it had dirt...or bugs in it. EW!

I stopped feeding Chubster, so he started screaming, of course. I tried to get a better look at the blackish dots of whoknowswhat. I decided that I must have done something horribly wrong in the bottle making process, even if I have done it a million times before.

I prepared a second bottle of the formula and rice, began feeding Chubster again, and noticed the same thing.

Ever had that happen? It just looked so..odd!

I struggle a LOT with jealousy, especially in regard to my siblings. I always have, and I know it's bad. All three of my "dating age" siblings are now dating, and the jealousy flares its head once again, especially when it comes to one of my siblings. Being barely a year apart in age, you'd think that we would be best friends...not so. I wish, though...that would be so neat!

Since we were homeschooled for middle & high school, we took a bunch of the same classes. She *always* did better than I did.

In college, I worked so hard and never made it to the Dean's List. She did, every semester.

She has a great group of friends from college. Some days, lately, I feel like I have no friends.

She's rolling in the dough at her sales job, due to super duper lowwwwww rent. I'm barely making ends meet, especially so after my roommate moved out.

She has a boyfriend, I do not.

And on and on it goes.

Earlier this weekend, we were sitting at our youngest sisters' play when she told me her boyfriend was coming for a week-long visit. I just replied something along the lines of "Oh... who bought him a ticket to come?"

When she said, "His dad and I split it", I about lost it. Then she continued with, "Come on, I haven't seen him in five months!"

And it's true, she hasn't. I should have said, "Oh, it's wonderful that you two get to spend time together!!!!!!" and been happy for her.

But. No. What I said was, "'s been 24 years for me."

I'm such a jerk. I hate it.

Sanity Day

Yes, this is me...compliments of one of my students ;)

I've been really overwhelmed lately. Between the stomach virus, a cold I STILL can't kick after almost two weeks, subbing, work, babysitting, trying to stay connected with friends and family, I just can't seem to catch up on life!

Seeing as I've been subbing so much lately, I'm DRAINED when it comes to work. I LOVE my job, I LOVE the kids, I LOVE my co-workers but I've been arriving at work just not able to give it my all lately. I wished away the day, which I absolutely hate doing. So, at the suggestion of a few of my beloved, well-meaning co-workers, I took tomorrow off. When my boss asked what I'll be doing with my extra day, I didn't let her know it's a sanity day...but I'm going to go insane if I don't take some time to chill, breathe and enjoy this beautiful spring weather. I know I deserve it, so why do I feel guilty about taking ONE day to just catch up?

Hopefully, the extra time will allow me to take a walk in the park or something just as exhilarating ;)

Weekend Snapshots

For the most part, I spent my weekend at the park. I grabbed a blanket, wacko ipod, books, my journal, some snacks, water...and basked in the sun. And now, I'm loving me some aloe!

I had a few visitors, this was the only one caught on camera :)

"Colored Pencils" by Alexa, age 5

A few kidisms to kick off the weekend...

Adam was asked to sit on the bench outside because he'd been throwing the mulch, over and over. After he sat there for a few minutes, I went over to talk to him. I asked him if he knew why he was asked to sit down, and he said,
"Yes, because I was throwing the mulch."
I asked him, "Why would you do that?"
Adam replied, "My ears don't always work ever so well"

Another day, we went outside even though it was quite windy. Adam was wobbling around like a little drunkard, so I asked him what was wrong...
"The wind is trying to blow me over fast!"

We were talking about ancestry around St. Patrick's day, so one day Jake proclaimed,
"My family came from the cavemen. That's why I like noises"
(Seriously, this kid will be in an A cappella group at some point. The noises that come from him are SO annoying right now, but will be cool later in his life...)

After a nap, Spenderson noticed his hands had the print of the cots...
"My hands look like they are from the olden times!"

Sidewalk chalk was a hit outside today. In fact, the kids liked it SO much they began writing on our school building, the grass, and picnic tables instead of the concrete. Hmm...

~ All pictures in this post are courtesy of my students, most of the ones who are allowed to use my camera responsibly are 5 years old.

~ Thursdays seem to be my "cleaning days"..err, nights, lately. I typically babysit Friday nights, and I would rather stay up late Thursdays so that my weekend can be spent enjoying the clean apartment instead of actually cleaning it...haha. At least it starts out clean, usually by Sunday it's a mess again. ;)

~I got to talk to one of my dearest, oldest friends earlier this evening. We hadn't talked in a while, and it's *always* good to catch up with friends.
Slide from above

~ Tomorrow it is supposed to be above 80* here! I am psyched about that because I plan to wear my capris to work and get some color on this white skin of mine!! I have to babysit tomorrow night so my flip flops will be waiting in the car for me during work. :-)

Springtime Snapshots

Reef flip flops + sunshine + green grass = Happy Bethany...

Country Girl Goes Home

Gaming, Austria- September '04

I finally went to my parents' to visit this past weekend. I hadn't seen them/been home in seven weeks, so there was a lot to catch up on and I didn't have enough time to do it all-- but oh, it was GOOD to be home!!

Soon after I arrived home, my dad went up the hill to collect some manure from a neighboring farm for the garden. Thinking he'd be fine, and ignoring my mom's advice, he began to drive through their front yard (a field, literally) and got stuck in the mud since it had been raining for days... So, this ol' country gal did what any country-raised daughter would do-
I pulled on the barn boots, traded my jean skirt for some shorts, and headed down the hill to help shovel the manure off the truck. I love the country life...seriously!!!!! When I go to my parents' in the summertime, I offer to mow the lawn. I'm weird like that.

Since Saturday's weather was SO beautiful, I also spent some time lying on the grass, just enjoying a book and the sunshine...

I also took Lily and Rachael, my two youngest sisters out for ice cream. We frequent a tiny, country ice cream shop...they didn't have their picnic tables up yet so we ate in the back of my car. Do you think we look alike at all? Ignore my face in the pic with Lily, I was goofing off ;)

Saturday evening most of my family went to watch my brother Sam perform in "Beauty and the Beast". He was Lumiere and did a FANTASTIC job...he would kill me if he knew I posted this, though...

Matt Nathanson concert!!

Matt Nathanson- Come On Get Higher

His vocals in this song are beyond wonderful- a song called "Wedding Dress"

I went to the Matt Nathanson concert earlier this week- it was AWESOME!!!! I went alone (I know, loser, but I am out to prove that you can have fun by yourself. No one else wanted to/could go. As if I's miss out just because no one could go with me!?!?)
Anyway, it was quite the experience. He's seriously one of my favorite artists right now. His voice is so incredibly powerful!!
Before the first band came on (a band called Low Vs. Diamond) one of the girls in front of me suddenly fainted. After half a second of lying on the floor, she popped up, good as new. It was very strange and scary, and I spent part of the concert hoping she was okay and that it wouldn't happen again!

Then there was the idiot couple who decided to push their way to the front of the bar nearby me. The people who had been standing next to me and ended up behind me were SO pissed!! (rightfully so, btw!) I thought there was going to be a fist fight, truthfully. I strongly dislike mean people who care about no one but themselves...
I also experienced beer poured down my shirt and on the heads of people around me. Gotta love the balcony drunks.

Matt Nathanson's Enrique impression
