To Tattoo, To Not Tattoo

What are your thoughts on tattoos?

I've wanted a celtic cross tattoo on my ankle for YEARS. Like...12 years. And I'm only 24, so that's half my life. However, around the time I turned 18 I decided to wait a few years to see if I still wanted one.

And I do...

I can't/am really hesitant to get it done on my ankle with teaching, though. If I'd arrived at school with it the first year, it would have been okay, but three years in? I wouldn't be able to wear capris/skirts.

So I am considering getting a celtic cross on the back of my shoulder- is that what it's called?

Anyway...opinions on designs? colors? placement? Some of the ones I'm looking at-

Without the words- although I do kind of like the coloring of this one!

Without the crazy colors in the middle. Not sure what I'd ask for in the middle?

  1. Love tattoos! I really do! Have two of them myself.

I like the first pic you posted. As for colors, choose your fave. And as far as placement, it's your tattoo. Want it on your ankle? Go for it. =)

But on your shoulder would be cool too.

Man, now I want another one!

  2. I like the first one the best. Being that you are a teacher, perhaps the ankle wouldn't be the best placement. I'm not sure how your administrators would feel about it being exposed and you might have to wear pants when you're working in order to keep it covered up (not meant to be a judgemental statement, just don't want you to be doomed to pants!).

I have one on my left upper thigh...kind of on the side, although as I put on a few pounds since the getting, it's moved a bit more to the front =O

Love tattoos! My daughter wants to get one as well, on her belly. She'd like to get the Abbey Road album cover on her back...I told her she'd have to pay for it, and be prepared for a world of hurt!

  4. I always wanted one too, and I waited.

    And waited.

    And had 4 babies.

And STILL wanted to have one!

So on my 33rd!!! birthday I finally went out and did what I wanted and I am SO glad I did! I love it!

I got a cross (to symbolize my Christianity) with a border on the sides and inbedded inside is by kids initials.

Now your ankle people will see at fancy events, dresses and such. Same with shoulder. I got mine on my lower back. It only shows when I wear a bathing suit. Approiate fun time!

You can see a picture of it on my post "Goodbye 2008" I think dated December 31st.

Whatever you decide~do it because YOU want to! Not because other don't want you too!!!

    Goood luck!

  5. Checking in from SITS with an opinion!

I like the celtic cross and the one with roses best. I don't see a problem with the ankle location. I think I like that best because I still don't like to see a woman in a backless gown with a tattoo'd back.

I'm old enough so that tattoos kind of freak me out but I do admire them. There was a time in my teens when I thought about getting one on a hip or somewhere not really obvious but I never did. Back then it would have been mostly for the shock factor!

And I realize they are now mainstream enough so that probably won't be an issue for future employment of just about anyone.

You've waited a long time and seem to have thought it through...go for it!

  6. Tatoos are addicting...I have one and I want another one. I know what I want I just don't know where. I want the Chinese symbol Grace since that is Madison's middle name. I wanted it on the back of my wrist but my friends say I shouldn't get it there since I'm going to be a teacher.
I like the first one. The second one is cool to but I don't like it so big lol... well good luck!

  7. I like tattoos...but only if they are tasteful and meaningful. You were smart to make yourself wait! I got one when I was 18 and, while I still love the meaning, kind of wish I had waited a little while or put more thought into the specific design.

  8. I am not a huge tattoo fan but I've kind of sort of wanted one for a few years. I don't know if I'll ever act on it but it will be a series of stars on the back of my neck.

Ask your work if they mind, I suggest. If they do, then it can be on your shoulder blade. (think open backed dresses & tops, like someone has already suggested.)

I like the first design, clear & clean.

My BFF D waits a full year before getting a tattoo, to make sure she really wants it and is not being impulsive.
