Abandonment, Reversed

Just about a year ago, I wrote a post about how three of my four very close friends all moved away within a few month span. I’ve missed hanging out with them- we did a lot togther. They were the crew I’d go to movies with, out to dinner, to the piano bar…they were my buddies and we were close.

Somewhere, the moving gods are laughing at me, since just this past week I’ve been looking at various jobs in my state and states east of here. I had an interview opportunity in Connecticut, which I was interested in but found out the nanny position was a live-in and decided not to go for. I really have no interest in being a live-in nanny.

Enter Wednesday…and my friend Lyn called to tell me she’s moving back to BC.

Wow, that’s exciting! She gets along pretty well with my roommate/friend Hope too, so that was awesome news.

Night came, and morning came….Thursday.

Lita called. She’s moving back to BC.

I just sat there and laughed, and laughed. I told Hope about these two friends of mine and their news, and her reaction was, “Sweet, you’re not moving away then are you?”

I think that I’ll probably be staying in BC. How can I move away when my closest friends are moving back?

Some days, you just have to laugh!

I want to document this time in my life so I can look back later and tell myself, “Look, you got through it! You found something new…something better!”

That is why I write lately. Goodness knows it’s not anything fun or earth shattering, but it’s my life and I choose to document it the way I see it.

Care Bear and I were at the zoo exploring yesterday morning. Before we’d even entered the main gates, I ran into one of my former students and his mom. I really get along well with his mom and it was great to see them, but after explaining that Care Bear was my nannying charge, her next question was how long I was nannying for. I told her into September and she questioned, “Aren’t you returning to the school?”

This past weekend I took my younger sisters to the pool up the road. Family friends are the owners but only a widowed mom lives there now. She and I have always talked at length when we see each other, but it had easily been a few years. As we were catching up, she asked how my job at the school was going.

At my younger sister’s play, the electricity went out in the whole town just ten minutes into the show. As I waited with my dad outside for the electricity to return, one of my old psuedo-friends showed up. It was good to see her, that I cannot deny. She recently graduated from nursing school and, last she knew, I was teaching.

It’s happening a lot lately. I am just going about my day, enjoying summer with Claire or family/friends, and it all comes rushing back. Jessa, school, my former boss. My coworkers, the kids I love.

It’s a physical pain when the “BAM” moment happens.
It hurts.
It makes me sad.
and I’m still trying to recover from it all.

What I’m Digging

I hope everyone had a good weekend. I decided to come right home after work today to relax since my weekend was really busy. I never do that...usually I go to the park and bike/read until it gets dark.

My favorite summer findings...

-- Songs:

Anything from the Sky Sailing cd- yes, it sounds like Owl City but I like that

Fly Me Away- Little & Ashley

The Way- Fastball

Any of the songs in this post

-- Pool days with my younger sisters

-- Sunsets and Moons in the warm summer nights

-- Huge zucchinis from my parents garden…and then making zucchini bread with my slightly helpful 10 year old sister

-- Reef flip flops. I LIVE in these things, except for when I’m biking. I don’t think I’ve worn anything else since school ended!

-- Footprints in the sand

-- Sunrises..and sunsets at the beach

No News= Well, No News

I wish I had some exciting news for you all.

Really, I do.

But, alas, I have absolutely nothing. I guess I have "news" but it's not the kind of news I really enjoy sharing, which is why I've put it off for the past week.

My summer job, which had the possibility of extending into the fall, will be ending in September sometime. Since I knew this was a possibility from the beginning, I wasn't exactly surprised but Care Bear's mom was upset and almost to the point of crying when she told me. Thankfully it has nothing to do with me- they love me- but feel that Care Bear would benefit from being with other kiddos and from seeing more than the apartment every day (and I agree). Hopefully, I'll still get to babysit for her occasionally because she really is a joy to care for!

So, I'm on the job hunt once again. This week has been really hard for me. Orientation started at my old school recently and while I enjoy hearing stories about the new children-- well, it is SO hard to know that I wouldn't be welcomed back for a visit to see my coworkers and the kids.

Anyway, that's what I've been up to. Working, spending a lot of time at the park reading/thinking/praying/walking/biking...have to enjoy this beautiful summer weather while it lasts!

Sunrise on the Beach

IMG_3015 (7)

Two weeks ago, on a quiet Rhode Island early morning, I awoke at 4:30 am willingly.

This is rare, but so was the reason I was awake!

A sunrise over the ocean…

so peaceful…

a perfect start to the day.

I am missing that today.

I feel like June and July have brought a lot of changes for me as well as those close to me and I don't know where to start.

Bug (the little boy I babysit for quite frequently) is moving in a week. He'll be a few towns over living with his parents in his grandmother's house while his parents search for a new house to call home. I'm guessing my babysitting with him will significantly decrease because of this, but we'll see. I hope not...

Since my return from vacation I've been babysitting Care Bear about 32-33 hours a week. I have 3 almost 10 hour days and then work just three hours on Wednesdays. So far the schedule is working out well but on my day completely off, I've been babysitting either Bug or some of my old students so I haven't actually been off!

I've seen a few of my old co-workers since vacation as well. I had fun but it was really hard to hear them talk about school related things. I explained to them that it's hard, just so they know why I might seem quiet if we're all together, at least in the beginning. One of my old co-teachers (who also left) saw our old boss at a grocery store and hid in her car. LOL. I'm glad it wasn't me who saw her! In all actuality, I *know* I made the right decision, 100%, but it's really hard to hear about school especially when I don't know what I'm doing in the fall. Everyone I talk to wants to know and I try not to sound frustrated as I explain that I still don't know. If my summer job doesn't pan out to continue in the fall, I'm okay with that and not concerned about finding a childcare job. I'm really not.

Living with my friend is going well. Anytime I mention possibly moving out of the state, she speaks her mind and tells me to stay. LOL. We did a major clean of the apartment today and hit Walmart together- it's kind of fun to have someone to go places with, I'm not going to lie. Our checkout guy was really funny though (actually, he may have been drunk or stoned, I would not be surprised.) Our conversation went something like this:

Hope (roommate) had already walked up to the checkout counter while I tried to find some birthday cards. I walked up to the same one and the checkout guy was helping the person in front of her.

Me: Fancy seeing you here!
Hope: Mhhhhmm. Who would have thought?!

Guy gives us a really weird look while trying to talk to the customer. Customer then walks away.

Checkout guy (we'll call him Roy).
Roy: Do you guys, like...know each other or something?
Me: Yep
Hope: We're roommates.
Roy: And you, like, didn't, like, know the other one was here? That's really funny.
Hope: Actually we did, and she's my ride home so I better be nice to her.
Roy: Oh. (looks very confused)

LOL, we have fun, what can I say??

No Pity Party

I am about.this.close to posting a huge pity party. But I will not, not today. I have to be careful what I post everywhere this days, I should probably go back to writing in a journal or something.

I'm working on a few posts about my recent vacation (aka the month of June) but in the meantime I thought I'd share some songs that are making the summer that much more fun for me. What are you listening to? I love finding new music!!

And really, I would just listen, not watch the video. Some of them are REALLY strange.

If you just listen to one, listen to this one! (and just listen, don't watch the video lol!)
Ben Folds- The Luckiest

Fastball- Out of My Head

Lady Antebellum- I Run To You

Alphaville- Forever Young

Nick Drake- From the Morning

We The Kings- We'll Be A Dream

Paramore- The Only Exception

I do not know how anyone is finding time to blog lately! Somehow my Google Reader keeps multiplying posts but I've been busy with work, babysitting and enjoying the summer weather! Every time I sit down to write something I am lured outside...sad but true!

Hope you are all having a great summer nevertheless. A crying, teething baby calls!

New Toy :)

Technically, I'm back in town. I arrived straight from Rhode Island about 30 hours ago...more on that later! I have SO many pictures to share! Being gone for a two week stretch seemed like forevvver though.

While I was gone, my BlackBerry conked out so I ended up with a new phone/toy.

Yep, I have joined the iPhone family! For those of you who already have iPhones, what are your favorite apps? I've already been introduced to Talking Carl and Angry Birds. My godson is completely addicted to Angry Birds!

The Day I Touched A Giraffe

Did I mention I went to Africa a few weeks ago?

Okay, so not really. However, I did touch a giraffe and get licked by a bison!

I took my sisters to the African Safari Wildlife Park

We got to see many animals up close and personal.

I mean that quite literally. VERY Literally, in fact. As in, the animals were in our car…

Come take a drive and experience what we did!

Some of them even wanted to be friends with us!

(Yes, we are feeding the giraffe!)

Just popping in to say hi!

In all honesty, it was one of the coolest things I’ve ever done! Want to see my favorite picture from the day?

How flippin’ cool is that?!
Bye from Jeffrey the Giraffe!
