Dun, Dun, Dun…

Okay, so here’s the deal. I took pottery for nine weeks. I have seven pieces that are completely done and pictures of those seven to show you. There are two more coming. I do not, at all, want to stop taking pottery, but unless you all take up a collection or something I really don’t have a choice with buying a car and all.

Oh, and another thing? Everyone who has seen pictures and then the actual pieces proclaim the pictures to not do justice. Sorry, my blog friends.

(Bowl done on the wheel, painted in root beer)

(This one has quite the story. It was created with a mold, but then stretched too thin and threatened to tear. I could/should have just scrapped it and started over, but decided to go with it and just create the edging myself. Shell shape imprinted, handpainted the word “relax”. Painted with aqua and blue underglaze, covered with clear)

(Clearly, I need to work on the edges of my pieces. Mold piece, painted with…? stone denim? robins egg? I’m not sure! Irish imprints)

(Wheel piece, painted with exploding paint, don’t remember which one…then painted with denim blue. In person, it reminds me of Van Gogh colors)

(Okay, definitely one of my favorites. I love how it looks like flames! Likely my best wheel piece to date)

(Yet another bowl made on the wheel…also exploding paint. This came out cool!)

(Branching out from my typical blue/green scheme, this one tends to emit, “oh it’s my favorite!” from family and friends. Imperfect though it may be, a nice & big ice cream bowl!)

Which one is your favorite? Truthfully, I can’t pick one!

  1. I love ceramics! I took it in high school and I remember feeling like Demi Moore in ghost minus the shirtless bf behind her haha!

I love the first and last pieces. I'm really drawn to the deep red :)

  2. Bethany, I think your work is awesome...especially for 9 weeks. If you really love it, keep taking..Eat noodles or something. If it's not a passion then, I agree, love it and move on to the car. I am an artist...a new one...like you and the pottery! Some of my art is on my blog.

  5. Hmm...they're all great! You did fabulous but I guess if I had to choose just one, it'd be #6. I love turqouise blue w/ a rust color like that and I like how imperfect it looks. All of the pieces have a ton of character!
