I’m Weird

I have my strange quirks.

I’m right handed, but eat with my left hand. Always have.

When I step into shoes or put on socks, the left foot has to go first.

I have a chicken pox scar on my left eyelid.

All the girls in my family have a freckle on one foot.

I can write mirror image with my left hand while writing normally with my right.

I lose sunglasses like no one I’ve ever met. One time, I walked into the store to buy a pair of sunglasses. I tried on a few pairs, picked one out, bought it, and walked out with my new sunglasses- but left the old ones in the store and didn’t realize it until too late.

And to make it even more apparent that I’m strange?

I sit like this.

Breathing Country Air

IMG_8038 (2)

I may live in the city now, but I’m most definitely still a country girl at heart and love going back. It’s very peaceful there. Smile

IMG_8040 (2)    Lucky for me, it was hay baling weekend- making it all the more picturesque in my mind.

Take a look and try to tell me it’s not peaceful…?

A Thursday

Thursdays are my saving days. It’s my day to catch up on life- sleep, reading, enjoying friends and whatever season we happen to be in at the moment.

Today was an interesting Thursday, to say the least. I picked my roommate up from school…the school I worked at for three years. It’s the first time in almost 14 months that I have pulled into the parking lot, so it was a big step, at least in my mind. I’m sure it doesn’t seem that way to most people, but the way I left the school was not how I’d have chosen, ever. It’s only with the help of friends, therapy, and the healing passage of time that I was able to do it today. My roommate asked last night if I was sure I’d be okay to do it- and I told her yes. I wouldn’t have suggested that in our scheduling if I knew I couldn’t. And six months ago? I wouldn’t have considered it, truthfully. It simply would have been too painful.

The roommate and I rode to my former secretary’s house for a perfect 105+* day- grilled chicken salads and two hours of simply chatting. As should be expected, I suppose, the talk turned to school. After all, that is what all three of us have had in common. Afterwards, I was thinking that as thankful as I am to have friends from the school (and be able to keep in touch with them), in some ways I do wish it had never happened- only because it’s an issue I have come to terms with. We’re NEVER going to know how Jessa came in and butchered my place in the school. Never. Let’s move on.

Time. It heals.

Anyway, I also got to hang out with another old coworker (see, it was a coworker Thursday!) and her two kids at the pool this afternoon. Seeing that it was the hottest day of the summer (so far?) it was a perfect excuse to chill, catch up, and cool off. Her kids are 9 & 5 and I’ve known them since the older one was in kindergarten. When she informed me she’s off to FOURTH GRADE this fall, my jaw about hit the pool floor.

Ah, Thursdays. You make Friday bearable.

One of my good friends, Lyn, had a birthday a few weeks ago. Lyn hates Hates HATES pink…loathes it. So clearly, we had to shower her with pink for the special day. She was well, less than thrilled.

Open-mouthed smile

A Trip to the Fish

Complete with crappy phone photos since I forgot my camera…of course!

With Laney out of school for the summer, the kids and I have been taking every chance we can to snag the van and hit spots around town. We don’t have a car every day- this week, we had three days in a row of being stuck at the house. Makes it challenging!

We walked into the “aquarium”, really a fish store and found this guy smiling his hello. I couldn’t snap a picture of it, but he was actually putting half his body up OVER the aquarium as if he was trying to escape!

Truth be told, Mr. Turtle was my favorite. He was friendly, too. Smile

Shrimp! Just don’t buy and eat…

Check out this guy’s eyes! I tried to crop it but then it looks even worse.

Just some more crazy fish…

Tumblr Blog Update

Hopefully this link will work for my Tumblr. I don’t think the other one did. I just have fun on that blog, absolutely nothing personal going on. Smile

Beautifully Broken

Life Updates

Busy, busy, busy!

I’ve been enjoying summer as much as possible. This week is the first one I’ve had to work full time since the week of my sister’s wedding, thanks to said wedding, a week of vacation, my boss taking a vacation day, and the 4th of July being on a Monday!

Okay, so maybe that explains why I took a 1.5 hour nap this afternoon- that in addition to working a few hours this morning, working late yesterday, and babysitting four very active girls in an apartment on Tuesday evening. Whew.

So… a couple of updates~

Travels- I’m heading to DC and MA/RI in the next month. I’m excited about both, especially to get back to RI. It’s my favorite state- but then, I haven’t visited Hawaii yet Winking smile

Pottery- I haven’t been back. Very sad about that. (see below)

Car issues- (tying into pottery) Unfortunately, I’ve had car issue after car issue- literally about 1 a week in the last month. All required fixing (of course) and a few were quite expensive, completely wiping out my emergency fund. Blah. So, I’m back to square 1 with that…and decided to take the money I had saved for pottery and use it for gas when I visit family in RI. I’d regret spending a whole week in Ohio if I could be much closer to the ocean and visiting family. My grandparents, especially, I enjoy spending time with. They won’t be here forever, regardless of what they say. Smile

Work- it’s going well. This week has been a nice break in that regard, because Laney is in camp every day, all day. Laney and Derek have been at each other’s throats incessantly so they need to be apart for a while. In the fall, I’ll only have Tobin all day, Derek half day, and Laney for a few hours. I’ll be looking for some (very early) preschool-ish ideas for Tobin, otherwise we’ll be bumming around a lot Open-mouthed smile

And, I think that’s about it. Due to all the car issues, I’m looking into a second job- or at the very least, some (more!) babysitting on the side. We shall see.

Happy Belated 4th of July!

I haven’t even blogged about vacation…oh well, what’s new? I have to say, I’m enjoying a more computer-restricted summer. Not on purpose, but the books I’ve been reading have been great and I just haven’t been online much!

This was a sign inside the lakehouse. I enjoyed it Smile
Nevertheless, here are some pictures from the 4th of July. I was on a working vacation for a couple of days- Bug & Ladybug’s parents rented a place & boat on the lake so we all went up there. I’d had the kids for two days before we went to the lake as well- so it was busy, busy!
Anyway, we went boating and had dinner right on the lake. This was the view- so not too shabby!

A lakehouse…probably very expensive but pretty!

We got to watch the fireworks put off right over the lake- that was cool!

The view/ colorful fountain from where we stayed…

It was a peaceful few days!
What did you do for the 4th?

Oh yes, and this was a guy at dinner. No one we knew but it was funny! Tape & stickers is what he used Smile
