Wedding Time

I was invited to about six weddings this summer. Most of them I can’t attend, as they are out of state (like…Nebraska…now if it was Hawaii, maybe I’d consider it. Hehe!) or are occurring when I’m out of town. However, my sister got married a week ago and not only was I there in the state of Delaware (which I actually found to enjoy more than I was expecting- mostly due to the ocean I am sure!) but I was the maid of honor.

Now, I am not the maid of honor type. I hate attention, do not normally enjoy parties, and have been called an extroverted introvert, if there is such a thing. I had to walk down the aisle by myself, and I’m pretty sure I looked like I was frowning. Oh well.
After the wedding, walking out. Smiling because thankfully I know my duties are over. Finally. Yay!

So, some snapshots from the day My best friend Stevie came as my “date” from about 4 hours away which was awesomely fun. I also enjoyed hanging out with extended family members- didn’t really feel like I got enough time with them!

Bye Bye June!

Between my sister’s wedding this past Saturday and taking my two youngest sisters to the beach until Thursday…this month is just flying by!

At the end of the wedding walking back with the Best Man. We had to sign the marriage certificate and make it official…scary!

I’ll be back later this week…but today I rode this ride at Six Flags. Ohhhhh wow. Talk about head banging- the name of the ride was “Mind Basher” or something of the like.

I’m not a fan of roller coasters but I went on this one. You hang from it and basically scream the whole time. Crazy.

Hovering Mothers

When I lost the job- or guess I should say LEFT the job at the school, since ultimately it was my decision, I left behind of a lot of hovering mother-types.

I was the youngest one working there by a few years. The girls close to my age were more like sisters/friends but my boss, the secretary, and several of the teachers are decades older than me and seemed to enjoy chiding me about everything. If I had a cold, I was told to sleep and take Vitamin C. If I was going on a trip, I was told to be very careful. They commented on my hairstyle changes, new clothes, family and roommate issues…

My mom growing up was never overprotective that I can remember. When friends called their homes while we were out having fun to let their parents know they were on their way home, we stood by and watched. Our parents knew we’d be home when we got there and I never had a curfew- probably helped that I didn’t get my license until I’d already completed a few semesters of college. Nowadays, I’ll talk to my mom every week or so—not really scheduled times.

Enter my roommate. After living with two roommates who didn’t give a crap in the world what I was up to, if or when I would arrive home at night, what my plans were, I find my current living situation a little amusing.

My roommate’s mom is a little more…present? I’m not sure that’s the right word, but Hope’s mom definitely calls multiple times a week. When we went on spring break last year, Hope’s mom called her before we were out of the state, making sure she knew what area of the country we planned to be in at what time. I didn’t hear from/talk to my mom the entire time, and it was hysterical. Hope kept asking me, “Did your mom call yet?”…. “How about today. Have you talked to your mom today??”… It just cracks me up how my roommate, who is 10 years older than me, is checked on by her mom way more than me!

Were your parents protective? I think it’s interesting how my maternal grandma was the opposite of protective, and it’s definitely filtered down through the years with her children and grandchildren!

I heard this on the radio the other morning, and it was painful then. Once I came across the video of it, I couldn’t even finish it.

It may not help that I don’t care for cats to begin with…

Warriors!

Earlier this month my roommate participated in a Warrior Dash- basically it’s a 3 mile race but with lots of obstacles throughout. I didn’t sign up because 1) I was being a wuss and 2) it was too close to my sister’s wedding.

I did go watch though, and now I wish I’d run with them!

Okay first of all…this is how our morning started out. We rode a bus to the race spot from where we parked, a couple miles away. Our bus driver was very nice, telling us to have a good day, enjoy, etc.

We hopped off, started walking, and… BAMMMM!

“Was that just our bus running into a pole?”

“Yep…”

Anywayyyyyy…I’ll just post a bunch of pictures, because really the day was awesome. It was SO much fun to watch and I hope to participate at some point. I am totally not a “race person” AT ALL but watching some of the people and the physical shape they are in…I could do it. I think.

Welll…

I’m having a few little issues over here.

I tried to use a self-tanner towel thing. I’m pretty positive it didn’t do anything, so here’s what I look like. Wedding to be in in like 9 days…lovelito, right? I'm in trouble!

Now what!?

Oh yes, and I made my sister a gift for the wedding and it broke in the kiln. Sigh. BIG sigh there.
